Jake's Room

The first room we actually completed- and it's been a while, but I finally got pictures.

The doorway into Jake's room-
As you can tell decorated "Cool Surf Dude!"
The shelf above his bed was a skateboard that we took
the wheels off of and attached l-hooks to the bottom of the
skateboard and then attached them to the wall.

The window treatment is made of bamboo shoots purchased at Pier One and two grass skirts .
We got the boogie board when we went to South Padre Island last summer.

AAAAhhhh, the Hammock swing.  This was my idea that Jerry tries to claim- but this is
everyones favorite part of the room.  That swing is used on a daily
basis.  It wasn't easy, but Jerry attached it to a stud in the
attic so it can hold a lot of weight.

This is the Pottery Barn Wall.  We purchased the print above the dresser and the
skateboard peg hooks at Pottery Barn.  I thought of a way to imitate,
just like I had on the skateboard shelf, but then I got a PB coupon
in the mail and thought I would just take the easy way out.
The walls in Jake's room are beadboard on the
bottom portion with an armrail
molding.

Jake's room has been mostly done for several years now. He still seems to enjoy the
surf theme.  It was perfect for him for the preteen years.

Sunny with NO chance of rain...

Which is actually funny because we've been getting so much rain lately. (which I love- it certainly beats the typical July in Texas - HEAT)

But today my heart is filled with rays of sunlight.

And I'm just waiting patiently for the clouds to move in, I'm not trying to be a pesimist- but it's July 10th.

July 10th, not a good day for me.  I don't really remember as a child anything special or significant about July 10th- but in the last 9 years it's been a definite thorn in my side, a day I stay home- close all the shutters-hide from the world.  What was even worse, this wasn't even just on July 10th, but somehow my hiatis from my everyday norm lasted about a week.  Wow- this year, NOPE- July 10th just snuck up on me, then I wake up today and say to myself "OH, Hey- It's July 10th- Awesome, go out enjoy the rain with a smile in my heart, and bring sunshine to someone else today." (Yep, I'm on a quest- by the end of today I hope to turn someones day from partly cloudy with a chance of HAIL to Sunny with No chance of Rain. )

WHY--

Nine years ago today my heart was filled with an excruciating pain that I had NEVER experienced before.  Nine years ago today I was told that my child that I was 6 1/2 month pregnant with showed a very specific anomoly on a sonogram that I had Nine years ago today.   Nine years ago today Jerry and I were left in a waiting room with no explaination from anyone for over an hour after we saw it too- the anomoly that appeared on that sonogram. Nine years ago today I had my first and last amniocentisis. Nine years ago today I had no idea that I would know a greater pain than I was feeling that day- the pain of losing a child.  Nine years ago today I met Yvonne- one of the sweetest ladies I've ever encountered- she was our new "Genetic couselor".  Nine years ago today I cried so hard ( that lasted for days). Nine years ago I called my associate pastor and told her I couldn't finish the week of teaching VBS and asked her to pray for my baby.   Nine year ago today the FBI sent out a Memo warning of Muslim extremist were in Arizona, learning to fly, this warning wasn't taken seriously. (Ironic that they were warning for an event that happened on Jordan's Birth Day.)

I didn't take my warning too seriously either. I was sad, but I didn't think the outcome would be what it was.  My Dad flew in to be with me the following day, I cried! He cried. And we drove in silence for a while.

Jerry and I had about two weeks to be out of our first home.  We had to get a larger home because our family was GROWING- :).  I couldn't pack though, my desire for a larger home was gone.  My only desire was to have a healthy baby- I prayed and cried and prayed some more.

As time went on, I was better.  I did a lot of research for Pierre Robin Syndrome since that seemed to be what the doctors thought we would be dealing with.  During the sonogram (Yes, nine years ago today) we saw what appeared to be a massive overbite.  I saw it, Jerry saw it- Jeeezzz.... Anyway  - Research on the internet - Disclaimer- Be careful how much of this you do! I read and read and read and cried.  I already had in my mind how it would be when my little man was born. I still had the hollow, pit in the stomach feeling sometimes- but I really think I had come to grips with this special gift that God was giving us.

Back to July 10th- every year until this year I would go into a 4-5 day long depression, starting right around the 5th or 6th of July, it would be gone July 11th.  This year- I can't explain it, other than God has brought me to a place and shown me even more over this last year as to why I should never let this time of year bring me down.  Verses and sayings I have heard for years have started taking on even newer meaning with me. Being with friends that have walked the same road I walked- and we somehow move on to tomorrow, and we smile.  The last thing I heard last night before I went to bed was,

"God will not always steer you clear of the fire, but he will ALWAYS pull you through it."

This year he did steer me clear- and in the past, he's ALWAYS pulled me through.

Ellie !!!

Thanksgiving week I did my first alphabet post- Listing alphabetically things I am so very Thankful for.  http://jordanandrewmajka.blogspot.com/2009/11/thanksgiving-2009.html
Some of these letters were a little difficult- I mean "X" was a hard one for sure!  Anyway, E was one of the easier ones. I was introduces the beginning of July 2008 to a Caring Bridge page for a sweet little blonde haired 6 year old, Ellie. I had been following another Caring Bridge page, but for a family member of someone I actually knew. I'm not sure looking back what made me decide to follow Ellie's story.  Maybe it was the fact that I literally signed onto Ellie's page just a few short days after Ellie was diagnosed with cancer. Maybe it was the fact that she has a twin sister, and that pulled at my heart strings.  It might have been that it was someone that worked with my friend Jodi that actually knows the family.  I don't know, but I never missed a post from Ellie's mom Amy.  Over the course of nearly two years, I honestly feel like I grew to know this family, and what a sweet family they are.  And Amy, I don't know if she was always so faithful but she became such a true inspiration not only for me, but I know now, to so many others.

Ellie passed away on Wednesday. She fought the hard fight, and actually won! (Though most wouldn't look at it like that.) And still the post from Amy since Ellie's passing are so uplifting. Please pray for the Potvin family as they face a new journey. There is no doubt, Ellie will be GREATLY missed!!!
And hopefully this video of Ellie singing at her 8th Birthday party (last October) will play! http://vimeo.com/7490610

Have a great Weekend!

Presley's Swim Banquet

I regretfully didn't get any pictures of Presley alone before her swim banquet- but here are a few pictures of Presley and Cade, and one with their friends Hester and Glen. I will hopefully update soon with more pictures from the actual banquet.

Easter Pictures!!

Just a few pictures from Easter morning, before heading out to church!!

Depression

He basically told me he had nothing else to look forward to! It had come and gone and the gone was the worst part of it! I felt so bad for this 7 year old who had just watched this "oh, so important day" slip right through his fingers- but not before he got a good taste of it!! I remind myself- this is a child who while learning how to ski- was having the "worst" day ever, and 15-20 minutes later when he kindof got the hang of it, it was "The BEST day EVER!" So he would eventually be able to get over this too.

FIELD DAY

Unfortunately- I wasn't there to get photos of everything he got to do that day- Partner games, tug of war against other classes, but the day ended with the BOMB- the Huge inflatables!!!

He waited patiently each time he stood in line!!

And there he is on the right-- Having the time of his life!!

So until next years Field Day!!!! :)

Spring Break at a glance

We all heading in three different directions this Spring Break! Jerry is back in Belize, and the trip is going great, but I can't update with any pictures- because I haven't been sent any! Presley left with her BFF Meagan to go to Playa Del Carmen on Monday morning. Meagans parents have been great at keeping me updated on the outings with the girls. They are traveling with another family- there are 7 kids total. Looks like they are having such a great time.

First day on beach at Playa

Day 2- 2nd picture Presley is holding a Starfish! Very neat!!

Two Beauties and One Beast!

Tulum Ruins!
Lunch at Gringo Daves

Leaving to go snorkeling on a 65 foot Catamaran!! Oh the Life!!!

The boys and I headed out to ElPaso and spent some time with my Aunt Joyce and Uncle Stan and had a chance to see and catch up with my cousins and their kiddos and my other Aunt and Uncle, Robin and Ken. We left Tuesday to drive up to Ruidoso to go skiing! Owen had never been- so we were going to put him in lessons, but the day didn't go completely as planned. Ski Apache had a record crowd on Tuesday. Go figure!! Everything else was perfect, the snow, the weather!! Anyway, I ended up teaching Owen how to ski, which was fine- I just felt bad for Jake, I wouldn't let him go on his own-so he had to ski the same runs as Owen and me!! He was such a good sport about it though!

The drive to Ruidoso was absolutely beautiful!!!

The boys did so good! It was so nice to be in such a beautiful place with them!!

Owen on the slopes!!

OWENism

This is just too funny not to share! I was sitting by the fire, just got done giving Owen a spelling test and he pops out with

" Johnny always says God's name in Spain." And I look up at him and say "What"? "Yeah Mom, he always says God's name in Spain." I'm so confused at this point. So I ask, "What do you mean?" "You know Mom, he always says "Oh my God!""

I nearly hate that I teach him that it's actually using God's name in vain- but I don't want him to think he can't use God's name when we go to Spain!

***Johnny wasn't the name Owen actually used, just trying to protect the little guy!

HAPPY NEW YEAR- AND NOT ONE RESOLUTION TO BREAK! - Right??

That's the best resolution I think I have ever had, to make none!! I'm excited that the new year is here- I have a feeling it will be a great one!

December was such a great month, just busy for our household. The kids school projects, band concerts, swim meets, etc... didn't slow down until after the Christmas break started- so their two week hiatus has flown by. The boys started basketball, it's a first for both of them, and Presley is already facing the end of her first year on the Varsity swim team at school. Swim meets will continue, but with her club team, not the school. She has had a tremendous year- and has had a blast with all the people she's met.

December for me started out with a huge BANG!! I mean, it doesn't get much better than this for me--- It's "The Most Wonderful Time of the YEAR!" and I'm jetting off to one of my favorite places of all times!!

Did I give it away? I'm not too sure what I love about this place- it's AMAZING though! I honestly would go back weekly if I could!!

AHHHH - New York City

And I truly don't even consider myself a city girl- until I step foot off that plane, then I feel like there is no other place for me to be! The only set back I have is that my family hasn't gone together. Jerry and I have gone, and I've gone with friends- but the kids are dying to go, and we haven't taken them yet! So maybe I will make a New Year Resolution! I would love to share this love of mine with the little ones I love so much! I know Owen would go crazy with the subway, Presley would go crazy with the shopping, and Jake would go crazy if he could go to any NY sport venue! Nonetheless- this trip was a girls trip and we Shopped, ate, shopped, walked, shopped, subwayed, shopped, ate some more, shopped, slept, and then we shopped! I was smart enough to pack an extra bag in my suitcase for purchases-! I came home with nearly my entire Christmas list for Jerry to wrap and put under the tree for me. (At least he didn't have to worry about returns)

I went with my girlfriends Jodi and Melinda and Melinda's sister Jeannie- we couldn't have had a better time. First thing on our list was to purchase hats from a street vendor-

I was totally lovin' my red hat- a little out of my box, which was good!!

There are seriously no words to describe our "Ride" from the airport. I know I had it on my "to-do" list, get the number for a car company to pick us up! Well, it didn't matter, because we were so excited that our luggage made the tight connection in Chicago, that we knew everything else would happen to go our way! Well, that's when Melinda met Andre! Andre is just a good upstanding NYC citizen, that is out making a good living. Well, as we followed Andre to his car (in the dark parking garage, where no one else seemed to be parked)I started feeling a little HMMM, I guess uneasy! So I decided to take a picture of Jodi with my cell phone- with the license plate in the background. (And whoever accused me of NO common sense- come on!!)

Turns out that wasn't such a Brilliant idea! I considered still texting the pic to Jerry, surely CSI could zoom in and get a license plate number is we came up missing, Right? Well- I'm so busy taking the picture, the girls decide to all jump in the backseat, which was SO GREAT- I got to ride in the front with Andre, in his "Qui Mobile". Excuse my french, but "Holy Crap"- I didn't go to NYC to die! I have never seen New York City like this before. Let me just say- Andre had a horn on the back of his steering wheel, he didn't stop for anything or anyone- but he was nice enough to honk at them and give them a warning, and if the person in front of him wasn't doing what he wanted them to, he would just open his center console and touch one of who knows how many buttons to make a noise on, yep you got it, the speaker on the outside of the "Qui Mobile". The one used most often was the "Police Siren", the "Police Horn" was used once or twice just to tip people off. It was a Wonderful way to start the trip!! We got Andre's card, I guess as a souvenir- Cuz Lord knows we weren't calling him for a ride back to the airport!!
But anyway- we had so much fun! Here are a few pictures of our fun weekend!

I was crowned the Subway Queen, I had three rookies on my hands! You can't go to New York City and not ride the Subway!

We went to the "Top of the Rock"

It was snowing in this picture- we had just come out of Bloomingdale's!

We took a carriage ride thru Central Park

And we made our way down to Little Italy for dinner and dessert one night!

I was happy to get home to see the family, but I'm ready to go back at any time!!!

Once again this year, I tried to get pictures of the kids for Christmas cards! This task seems to get harder and harder as the kids get older! I thought I would share a few of the pictures that didn't quite meet my "Christmas Card" standards.

I don't know- Are my standards just too high?? I guess if I could have gotten Owen in the last picture, that would have worked!! (Hmm!) I told the kids we could try another day. So we did get better results second time around, but come on now- How hard is it to smile, and act like you're loving the ones your with!!!

We had a snag in a Huge Christmas Tradition, thanks to the weather. We didn't make it to Church services on Christmas Eve- the kids missed singing with the Agape Choir- it would have been Jake's first time to join in the "Hallelujah Chorus". No one was happy about the decission, but I am not a fan of icy roads and that's what we had! We hung out with my parents and go home safely- and just enjoyed being together!

New Years Eve was very enjoyable- We went out to eat with Grandmom and Papa, and Presley's newest "Friend" Cade! Presley went to a party at Cade's after dinner and we played "Sequence" with my parents. Jake did let me know that "New Years Eve is so much better than New Years Day- New Years Day it feels like all the celebrating is over~!" and Owen wanted to know when I wished him "Happy New Year!" New years morning, " Do we get to open presents for Happy New Year?" Enough said- Right???
